Zach Galifianakis: The Movie (aka The Hangover)

Postby Son of Joy » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:42 am

Anybody catch this flick? Zachy-Pack steals the show. Any scene with him is gold. "A wolf pack of one." XD He's basically in Tairy Greene mode throughout the film.
Ed Helms is pretty great too.
Highly recommended.

I love Zach Galifianakis, he's probably my favorite comedic performer. That's maybe a lot of the reason why I didn't like The Hangover, as opposed to it being something I simply ignored or didn't care about.

I couldn't stand it. To me it's in the same league as Wedding Crashers or Old School as a movie strung together by fake boundary-pushing and catchphrases that's catnip for douchebags. And I really hate when Zach is put in the goofy, loud best friend role, which could be what he is confined to now that this was a success. Sure, he was funny, but that's because Zach's funny. I'm sure Zach will be funny and Zach-like in G-Force, but that doesn't mean G-Force is any good.

But I guess I'm in the minority on this movie.

I will see this wednesday and have more to say then. But I did want to say that I found it funny that they let zach wear his beehive wig from the vodka commercials in this movie.

I hope it isn't as frat-boy as Aaron says it is, but that was my suspicion.

Yea I'm going to see download this sometime this week

I figured it was nothing but cheap laughs and farts, but a few of my friend saw it and said it has some classic moments with Zach

I really want to see the scene with his Bee-Hive hair
If you didn't care what happened to me,
and I didn't care for you,
we would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain,
occasionally glancing up through the rain
wondering which of the buggers to blame
and watching for pigs on the wing.

I'm illegaly downloading it as we speak. I love Zach and wish him the best but I really hope he doesn't blow it. And by blow it I mean like blowing on hot chocolate, sillies. Not the OTHER blow! EW!

I actually have no idea what I'm talking about. I am a stupid idiot.

I'd like to see him in a movie version of the snuggler. Him and Michael J. could like, stop Iran from attacking it's neighbors by snuggling it out with it's leaders or something.

I'm just throwing ideas out here. I'll stop now. Sorry. That was completely uncalled for. Please don't ban me.

In regards to it being "frat boy", it was much lighter than I thought it would be. No keg stands or "Check out that hot babe!" slow-mo moments. Most of THAT took place during their unseen crazy night. Most of the film is them running about looking for their friend. Yeah, there were jokes that fell flat but Zach was comic gold. Also, like I had said earlier, Ed Helms is great as well.

Some Zachisms that I enjoyed:

"He was a re-tárd."

"I miss my grandfather"
"When did he die?"
"World War II"
"Oh, so he died in battle?"
"No, skiing accident. But it was during World War II"

"Not at the table, Carlos!!!"

"what is this, snakeskin???"[/i]

Movie looks horrible. I like how the commercials say "FUNNIEST COMEDY OF THE SUMMER!" or something like that and more, and their fucking source is...

GLAMOUR MAGAZINE.

Yeah, they're a reliable source.

No more shitty movies for me. I'm not wasting my money anymore. Not even wasting my time sneaking into them either.

I'm just waiting for Where the Wild Things Are.

I don't mean to be like this. I'm actually a HUUUUGE Zach Galifianakis fan. I just don't appreciate his work in movies, like the up coming 3D adventure G-Force...

Except for that one movie, Visioneers!!!!!! I'm going to watch it tonight!!!!!!

Zach is great in Visioneers, and that's exactly the type of role he should be playing. Unfortunately, especially now, he's not going to be cast as that kind of character, at least not anytime soon.

I have to see Visioneers. The part seems like an extension of his onstage persona which is the reason I love him so much.

I can't wait to see g-force.

This wasn't the first time for him to be "that" character. Anyone ever catch that little gem from 2001 titled "Out Cold"? I'm sorry if you have; be happy if you haven't.

Generally, I liked it.
I was pleasantly surprised because
they incorporated more than "modern douchebag humor" into it.
I want Galifianakis to marry me.
But, seriously, he was the best part in the movie.

Off topic, but you can now purchase Visioneers on the film's website. I just did. I am very excited. I saw the trailer the day it was released and have been waiting patiently ever since.

What a co-winkydink: I just read the Roger Ebert review of this movie that was in the local paper less than an hour ago! Here's a link to the article:

EBERT REVIEWS THE HANGOVER

I have a friend at work who is a movie fanatic/expert who recommended this movie to me because he knows I like Tim and Eric and have talked about Zach Galifianakis and the Visioneers (which I haven't seen yet but have been wanting to see desperately since I first heard about it). Everyone seems to be raving about it. One notable part of the Ebert review was when he describes this as Zach's breakout performance, then goes on to compare him to John Belushi after Animal House came out. Hmmmmmm....overweight, weird, legendarily-hilarious comedian gets his start in sketch-comedy, then goes on to do movies, then dies of either a heart attack, drug overdose, or--more likely--a combination of the two. Let's see: Arbuckle--Belushi--Candy--Farley...am I missing anyone? I'm attempting to break the curse here...although I think Zach is quite a different animal...

I don't know: are they attempting a Road Trip/Little Miss Sunshine synthesis here? I agree that Zach should do movies like Visioneers: leave this kind of crap to Seth Rogen.

But...it might really be good, I MIGHT see it... ¬_¬

Oh my Gawd! I fucking hate Seth Rogan now! He completely sold out and I always thought of him as the kind of guy who wouldn't. He broke my heart.

Haha. I remember him in Donnie Darko. And I hear there's a Donnie Darko sequel? What the fuck? Straight to video, different writer and director, all together shitty. Hollywood kills another cult following.

Yeah. Both Hollywoooood and Rogen/Rogan/Ro-Gunn should just go outa business and shut their doors for good. They (or we) should make a new "Hollywood." It would be called: JEFFERTON.

A sequel for Donnie Darko. Mmmmm......kay? ??? BUT--all is not lost, my young Skater. Elizabeth Berkley's in it!!! YEEEAAAAHHHHH! SbtB representin'!!! She's so excited!! She's so excited!! She's so...still acting after Showgirls...

I hate what zach is inevitably reduced to for a movie like this. I'm glad he's making money though. it's actually a good movie, but it should have been great. I've never laughed harder in a movie theatre than I did during the wolf pack speech.

See, here's the deal:

People like you - and I mean all of you - will never be satisfied with the status quo.

Why? Because you have brilliant taste! This is a given.

And 'The Hangover' would be NOTHING without Zach G.

But cut these Hollywood cats some slack!!!!!! The Hangover was just an all around funny movie that appeals to all sorts - and therein lies its success. I'm really happy for Zach and I DON'T think this movie REDUCED him to ANYTHING!!!!

Zach STOLE the show in ANY scene he was in and MADE the movie. I had several friends that had never heard of 'ol Z to the G (I will never call him that again, don't worry) and are now almost like diehard fans.

I'm really happy for all these guys. Tim, Eric, Zach. They deserve this success!!!!!!

BECAUSE THEY AREN'T DOUCHE BAGS!!!!!!!

P.S. And you gotta admit that piano solo by the dentist in the middle of the movie was pretty damn hilarious....and

...

Dare I say....

The cinematography was excellent as well.

Did anybody catch a glimpse of Zach's b-sack? Not that I was looking... but I saw it.
